Community Leaders Gather in Recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month to Celebrate Survivors and Agencies Working to Stop the Cycle of Abuse
Los Angeles, CA, September 28, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Los Angeles community leaders are joining together on October first to speak out about violence at home in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM.) Safe Passage, a charity assisting victims of domestic violence, has organized this press conference at the JW Marriot L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles at 2 p.m. to celebrate the survivors and agencies working to stop the cycle of abuse. "Domestic Violence and abuse can happen to anyone, yet the problem is often over looked, excused, or denied," says Trish Steele, CEO of Safe Passage. "It is not okay, and it must end."
DVAM evolved from the "Day of Unity" held in October 1981 and conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect advocates across the nations who are working to end violence against woman and their children. The "Day of Unity" soon became an entire week devoted to a range of activities conducted at the local, state, and national level. Los Angeles leaders and community members are hard at work to stop the cycle of abuse, and are taking this opportunity to share the work in progress, successes, and to raise awareness.
"Domestic Violence and abuse can happen to anyone, yet the problem is often over looked, excused, or denied. It is not okay, and it must end."
